My mission. Fight against the “order of ignorance and injustice in the world.” I pilfered the line from my new mentor, @steven_pressfield. Today I’ll be at UCLA working on another partnership with my alma mater at bringing classical critical thinking into classrooms, which includes analytic philosophy.

Today Mom would have turned 81. When I shot this last night, I remembered her — how she would never let a skyline or sunset or wildflower go unnoticed. She not only used her senses, as we all do — she paused and studied and let them enter her soul. “Appreciate” is the word that comes to mind. But that word seems insufficient. Because in escalating exuberance she would point to God — the power demanding we stop whatever occupied our minds, and be grateful. To let it heal. I miss her today more than ever. #leica

I'm really lucky in my work as a nonprofit consult

I'm really lucky in my work as a nonprofit consultant. Last night I had the honor of having dinner with Alice Waters.

If you don't know, Alice is an renown chef, author, activist, and one of the impressive humans I've met.

She opened Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California in 1971. It's become one of the nation's most recognized eating establishments. Her vision was to cook for friends and members of the community using only locally sourced products. This created the farm-to-table movement and how we think about organic food, supporting local farmers, sustainable living, and the power of gardening as a pedagogy for teaching children.

Alice also created the Chez Panisse Foundation in 1996, and the Edible Schoolyard program at the Martin Luther King Middle School in Berkeley. Edible Schoolyard initiatives are used in over 60 countries, teaching children, again, the vitality of eating well, respecting our planet, and holistic living. Alice has modeled organic gardening to the likes of Steve Jobs, President Obama, and countless influencers in the U.S. and abroad.

And her middle name is “Louise," my late mother's first name. Mom, who practiced eating well and conservation (often much to my chagrin), I'm sure, was smiling down from heaven.
