Can you relate? Ernest Hemingway, a troubled soul, was born on this day in 1899. Years ago, he helped my writing with his words, "All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.” I've (imperfectly as many of you know) tried to follow his sage advice; I’ve always TRIED to write my unedited thoughts on paulosophia.com. I found this painting on a wall a couple of years ago inside a restaurant in Little Havana, Miami. I had to take this shot. Alternative perspective from a Christ follower… As a Christian who considers himself pro-life in principle, I’ve been saying the following, for years... Our nation is moving left on social issues. This is a fact. The right is terrified. All they have to fight back are the courts. But appointing conservative judges won't work. The move to the left is too powerful, both in scope and in size. So overturning Roe vs. Wade won’t work. In fact, today's decision is a gift to PRO-CHOICE DEMOCRATS. Please don’t take my word for it. President Trump recently said overturning Roe would be “Bad for Republicans.? Why? The Roe decision gave tremendous power to NINE men. Since then, the Judicial Branch of our federal government has wielded sole authority over this issue. Today, that power was given to the people to vote for pro-choice or pro-life candidates. And the Democrats will have the votes. Last month Gallup conducted a poll. Their findings on abortion? Since 1995, support for abortion increased EIGHTEEN points amongst Democrats to 88%, NINE points amongst women to o 61%, TWELVE points among adults aged 18-34 to 67%, NINE points amongst adults aged 35-54 to 58%, and SEVEN points amongst Independents. Oh, and only 39% percent identify as pro-life today. Abortion is not going anywhere. Today's "win" is but a mirage. Jesus never said a word about abortion, though it was a common practice. I encourage Christians to turn to do what Jesus said to care for: the poor, prisoner, outcast, homeless, widows, orphan, the born.
